Cookie Policy
The short version: NudgeBadger uses essential cookies, the ones required to keep you signed in, and — only if you agree via our cookie banner — Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. We do not use advertising or retargeting cookies, and analytics stays off until you opt in.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored in your browser when you visit a website. They help websites remember information about your visit, such as whether you're signed in. Some cookies are essential for a site to function; others are used for analytics, personalisation, or advertising.
2. Cookies We Use
| Cookie / Storage | Type | Purpose | Set by | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|---|
firebase:authUser:... | Essential | Stores your authentication session so you stay signed in | Firebase Auth (Google) | Until you sign out |
nb_account (localStorage) | Essential | Stores your business profile locally for pre-filling forms (non-logged-in users) | NudgeBadger | Persistent (until cleared) |
nb_letters (localStorage) | Essential | Stores your letter history locally before account migration | NudgeBadger | Persistent (until cleared or migrated) |
nb_free_used (localStorage) | Essential | Tracks whether you have used your free trial letter | NudgeBadger | Persistent (until cleared) |
nb_cookie_consent (localStorage) | Essential | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so we don't ask again | NudgeBadger | Persistent (until cleared) |
_ga, _ga_* | Analytics · Optional | Google Analytics 4: measures aggregate, anonymous usage (pages visited, device type) so we can improve the site. Set only after you accept. | Google Analytics | Up to 2 years |
The essential storage above is either required for the service to work or provides functionality you have explicitly requested (e.g. saving your profile). The Google Analytics cookies are optional: they are loaded in Google Consent Mode and remain switched off unless you click Accept analyticson our cookie banner. We do not use analytics or any cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.
3. What We Do Not Use
- Advertising or retargeting cookies (e.g. Meta Pixel, Google Ads)
- Analytics that track you across other websites (our Google Analytics is limited to nudgebadger.co.uk)
- Social media tracking pixels
- Fingerprinting or device-based tracking
4. Third-Party Cookies
When you use Stripe to make a payment, Stripe may set their own cookies in accordance with their privacy policy. NudgeBadger does not control these cookies. You can review Stripe's cookie practices at stripe.com/cookies-policy/legal.
Google Firebase (our backend infrastructure) may set cookies related to authentication. These are covered by Google's Privacy Policy.
5. How to Control Cookies
Analytics cookies: when you first visit, our cookie banner lets you Accept or Decline Google Analytics. Nothing analytics-related is set until you accept. To change your mind later, clear your NudgeBadger local data (see below or Account > Account Actions > Clear Local Data) and the banner will appear again on your next visit.
Essential cookies cannot be turned off without breaking core functionality (like staying signed in).
You can clear all browser cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings. This will sign you out of NudgeBadger and remove any locally stored data. Instructions for common browsers:
- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data
- Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data
- Safari: Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data
- Edge: Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data
You can also clear your NudgeBadger local data specifically from Account > Account Actions > Clear Local Data, which removes stored letters, profile data, and your free-trial status from this browser without signing you out.
6. Future Changes
If we introduce any non-essential cookies in the future (for example, optional analytics to help us understand how people use NudgeBadger), we will update this policy, display an appropriate consent notice, and obtain your permission before setting them.
